Fr Bruce Duncan CSsR and Ms Megan Cavanagh discuss the impact and current importance of this landmark social encyclical of Pope Leo XIII in a webinar of 15 May 2021. Megan Cavanagh is an employment and regulatory lawyer and partner in a national law firm, and chair of the Australian Catholic Council for Employment Relations. Bruce Duncan has taught at Yarra Theological Union and researched Catholic social movements for many years.

Faced with our gig economy, low or stagnant wages, housing stress, astonishing wealth in the hands of a few and increasing inequality, Pope Leo XIII’s 1891 encyclical is still acutely relevant.

The webinar was hosted by the Australian Cardijn Institute, Social Policy Connections, and Yarra Theological Union in Melbourne. For more information email aci@australiancardijninstitute.org.
